   St. Paul's Sunday School

Join us on September 7th at 10:15 for Rally Day. We have special events planned for the children on this day. We are inviting all children to bring their backpacks to church as we will be having a special time during the worship service for "A Blessing of the Backpacks". Following the blessing the children will gather with children their own age and get to know one another in a fun and interesting way.

We are thrilled this year to have Rev. Stephen Iverson joining us. Rev. Stephen and Rev. Lexie will be working together this year taking turns at being either with the Sunday school or leading worship.

Following the worship service the children will meet with their parents and then go outside (weather permitting) to register for Sunday school. Once the children have registered each will receive a ticket to get a free hotdog meal. We will also have games and activities outside of the church so the children will have lots to do.

This is a great time to get together with friends you have not seen in a while....or meet some brand new friends. If you have not been to church for a while, and have thought of 'giving it a try', then please come and join us.

We are a child friendly congregation, where people of all ages are growing in God's love.

Here at St. Paul's, children aged 5 and older, are not put into classes, but rather they are asked to become part of a flock with adults being their shepherds.  Shepherds are people who 'herd' their 'flocks' to various learning stations. We interact with a story of scripture in a variety of ways, be it cooking in the kitchen, creating in the computer lab, acting out the story in story time, or having fun in science and games.  The children in our Sunday school love coming to church!!!!   We encourage the children to understand the stories of faith and to use their minds to question these stories.  We want all people to know that God continues to work in the hearts and minds of people today.

The rotations that we will study next year are:
* Jesus and the Children
* Jesus’ Birth
* Elijah
* Breakfast on the Beach
* Bible Teachings:  Love the Lord your God and Your Neighbour
* Living in God's World:  Money and Time

Children who are 3 to 5 years of age are part of our Lions Sunday school class.  The Lions meet in the same room so the children get to know it as their "very own Sunday school room".  We have very committed and talented adult teachers who help to share their faith with the children.  This coming September we will be using the Live B.I.G. curriculum for this age group.  The children will listen to stories, sing and make crafts as they learn about God and God's love.  The children will also learn that they have some important gifts to share with others.

All year long Ashleigh, our ECE-trained nursery person, is with us, supervising the very youngest people of our congregation.  All infants and toddlers are invited to join us for some play time in our brightly-lit nursery.

Should you have any questions about our Sunday school or other programs offered for children, please contact Rev. Lexie Chamberlain at 905-845-3427 or email her at chamberlain@bellnet.ca

The Joyful Noise

Come to the church on Sunday morning and you will find anywhere from 15 to 20 children, ages 4 to 12, singing songs of praise and making a "Joyful Noise". Under the direction of Bev Phillips, the children practise at 9:15 and then enjoy juice and a snack before heading off to church.

The "Joyful Noise" sings during our Sunday morning worship, on a regular basis, as well as at special events during the year. New members are always welcome to join us at any time, throughout the year.

Youth Group

Each month a small group of youth (grade 5 and up) get together for a time of fun and community. They often meet one Saturday afternoon a month from 2 to 3:30. Three adults volunteer their time and energy to be with the youth. Often they have spent their time playing a physical activity game such as basketball, soccer, or volleyball. Following the sport activity the youth and adults engage in some lively discussions. It’s a fun time with a small group of youth who are interested in having fun here at the church. To find more information about Youth Group Events, please call the church office at 905-845-3427.

Nursery

Every Sunday morning infants and young children up to three years of age are welcomed into our bright and cheery nursery. We have a paid nursery worker, who is a student studying Early Childhood Education as well as an adult volunteer who help to make the children feel comfortable. The nursery has many age related toys and each Sunday the children have time for a story and song.

Puppet Ministry

Update on 'Name the Camel puppet'

We used Samantha Hunter’s suggestion and named the new camel puppet ‘Bumpy’. Thanks to Samantha and all the others who submitted names.

Below is a picture of ‘Bumpy’ as he played a starring role in the 2006 Christmas Pageant.

Below Samantha poses with a stageful of puppet characters.

Puppet History

St. Paul’s is fortunate to have a puppet ministry. We started back in 2002 with a stage and three puppets. We now have a large variety of puppets for all occasions. Most of the puppets were made by Marlene Reimer of Stoney Creek. She is a master at her craft. Marlene ran a puppet-making workshop for St. Paul’s, so a number of our puppets have been custom-made by members of our congregation.

The puppets perform at various times. They like to visit during Sunday morning worship to assist with the Children’s Story. They also like joining in whenever there are church-related events for children. Regardless of whether the puppets are teaching or just having fun, they are sure to bring a smile to your face.

We would like to thank St. John’s United Church for helping us get our Puppet Ministry started by sharing their ideas. We would also like to thank the members of our church who have contributed to the Puppet Ministry.

They say pictures are worth a thousand words, so please take a moment to look at the attached pictures - click here!

Family Fun Nights

Once a month Rev. Lexie and a small group of In the past we have watched a movie or had a games night. At Christmas time we gather together to go caroling throughout the neighbourhood. These nights are designed especially for children and adults to join in an activity together. We want for families to know that there is a place where we can gather across generations and have a good time. Watch the Sunday announcements for more information in regards to the next Family Fun Night.
