April 3, 2011 from Harold DeVenne

You will find a document below entitled “Sanctuary Renovation – White Paper”.   Let me give you a bit of history.  Over the past several years we have talked about possible projects within the Capital Projects Committee and renovating the sanctuary has been one of them.  David Crown and I have agreed to do some thinking about this and lead a sub-committee.

We have put our thinking and that of others into this White Paper as a form of communication.  Let me stress that this document is communication and not a commitment to any action.  This is the first step in a consultation phase which will include feedback and a lot of listening.

What we will be doing over the next month or so is pulling together a larger team of people to move into the next phase which is mainly about communication from all interested parties on their dreams and concerns about a sanctuary renovation at St. Paul’s.  The team will spend a lot of time listening and going out to look at what other congregations have done and bringing these experiences back to this congregation as part of the communication phase.

What we would like you to do now is to read the document and then send David or I any feedback you may have via email or written note.  We would very much like to have your name on the note so we know who to talk with in the future for any clarification and further ideas.  We need your input – whether you like a particular idea or not.  We need your input because this is your sanctuary and we need to understand concerns and dreams in order to come up with ideas that will work for the majority of this congregational family.

Read the White Paper, prayerfully consider the ideas in the document as well as your own feelings and ideas about the project and then put your thoughts down on paper and send to David Crown or Harold DeVenne.   hdevenne@cogeco.ca If you have a real desire to be part of the team, let us know about that as well.

This can be a very exciting and life defining project for the congregation of St. Paul’s and it will be full of emotions, ideas and many opportunities to listen to each other with open minds and hearts.
