Sunday School

Lighting up the World with God’s Love!

Our Sunday School consists of three main groups.

1.  Our youngest group, age 3 up to grade 1, are together in one classroom and they are participating in Godly Play.  Through Godly Play, children are invited to "wonder about themselves, God, and the world in a way that is playful and meaningful to them.  Godly Play respects the innate spirituality of children and encourages them to use their curiosity and imaginations to experience the mystery and joy of God."

 2. Grades 2-6 gather to explore biblical stories through rotation.  Usually, the children spend about four weeks on a story and explore it each week through different mediums like art, drama, science, games, kitchen, etc.

3.  Grades 7-9 are part of a new program called SEED - Seeking to Engage Emerging Disciples.  SEEDs is a program that attempts to offer opportunities for this age group to engage in different church practices throughout the year and to explore their faith, what the church is all about, and what they enjoy and for what they have gifts/skills.  Throughout the year, they may find themselves at the sound board, leading children's time, being an usher, visiting someone in the hospital, joining a music group, teaching children, or maybe even writing a prayer or preaching.  We have a couple of retreats during the year where we explore spiritual gifts, what it means to be a disciple of Christ, spiritual practices, what it means to feel called, and how one can best serve God's people.

 4.  The O.T.H.E.R.S. - This is our high-school youth group.  In the spring of 2013, the youth came up with this name which stands for Older Teens Having Experiences of Radical Spirituality.  The OTHERS gather to explore their faith on Sundays that are convenient for the group. Their topics of discussion depend on those who gather and their interests.

We strive to provide a safe and fun environment for our children.  As a church, we have Duty of Care guidelines.  Talk to Deborah if you would like to learn more.

We also have opportunities for discipleship with our children and youth.  If you enjoy working with young people, talk with Deborah.  Gatherings for Sunday School teachers, which include training, occur about twice a year.  You can express your interest here.
