Thanks

This past August, we lost our beloved Oma/Mom, Gonny Tedja.  At 97 years of age she lived an illustrious life, but her passing was sudden and difficult. The support that St. Paul’s community has provided during this time has been invaluable. Thank you so much.

Messiah

Masterworks of Oakville will be performing Handel’s “Messiah” at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Saturday, November 23rd at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, November 24th at 3 p.m. Tickets are available from me at church or you can contact me by phone (950-631-5568) or email (pfreedman@cogeco.ca ). Adults $30, Seniors $25. This is a beautiful pre-Christmas concert and I hope to see you there. An added incentive on this occasion is free tickets to people under 30 years of age. To obtain these, go on line to Masterworks of Oakville.  Numbers will be limited so if you’re under 30 and have never experienced Handel’s “Messiah” – go for it!!   Pat Freedman

Volunteers

Communication Team - This team needs a chair. Even if you can’t attend council meetings, if you’re willing to be a liaison person for this team it would be most helpful.  There is a full team who do all of the various tasks, but there is no co-ordinator.

Affirming Team - Thea Sheridan-Jonah and Judy DeMone are co-chairs of this team. They really need more members if we are to proceed with this initiative.

Outreach - Kate Labelle is the new chair of the Outreach Team and she is looking for team members.

Please consider helping with one of these key roles. You can contact me, Judy DeMone, at jdemone2@gmail.com or 905-849-9988, or one of our ministers.

Deborah will be away next Sunday, October 20th. She has been invited to preach at St. Paul’s United Church in Bowmanville for their Anniversary Sunday. This is the church Deborah and her family attended for nine years and the church that supported her as she studied to become a minister. She is looking forward to celebrating this special day with them. Deborah is also at a conference on October 22nd, so will return to work on Wednesday, October 23rd.

Name tags

Because we are welcoming a new minister, this might be a good time to dust off your name tags and begin wearing them to church again.  For welcoming first-time visitors, they are very helpful. If you don’t have one and would like one, please talk to Carilyn McNaught (camcnaught@hotmail.com) and she will order one for you.

The cost is only $10.

Creation Time in the Time of Pentecost

Creation Time in The Season of Pentecost - The Sundays after Labour Day and continuing through Thanksgiving. The Season of Creation is a special time for the Creator and each other. Christians around the world celebrate the Season of Creation. Some pray, some do hands-on projects, some advocate. We all protect creation. It’s powerfully good work that’s urgently needed. The momentum continues long after the season ends through ongoing prayer, changes in lifestyle, and advocacy. During the Season of Creation, we live out our faith to care for creation.

Girl Guides of Canada – Guiding at St. Paul’s.

Volunteers / Leaders are needed!

We have room for more girls. We also have room for more girls to join at the Sparks (age 5-6), Brownie (age 7-8), Pathfinder (age 9-11) levels. The guide unit (age 9-11) is active and may have room for a few girls. Guiding offers girls a chance to make new friends, challenge themselves and put ideas into action with the support of volunteers. The volunteer leaders are dedicated to mentoring the girls and helping them to develop skills and confidence that can last a lifetime. Please learn more about Guiding and how to register your daughter and/or volunteer to be a leader on our website – girlguides.ca. If you have questions please contact Deanna Jones (community guider) 905-827-4752; deanna.jones@cogeco.ca.

Oakville Ready

As you may remember, back in May we advised you of an initiative which is being piloted in Oakville where Places of Worship, including St. Paul’s are part of a weather emergency preparedness program. You were invited to join the launch at QEP Cultural Centre and we followed up with some pictures from that event.

As an Oakville Ready Hub, we have agreed to open our facility when called upon by the Town to provide a safe place for area residents as well as refreshments, friendly faces and places to charge up electronic communication devices. Read more on our Oakville Ready page.

If you have questions about St. Paul’s involvement, or want to be part of the team, please talk to Harold DeVenne or Deborah Laforet.
